This is the first time that applicants must have at least baccalaureate qualifications or equivalent, in line with the adapted Act on Local Police from the Government of Catalonia. The call takes the form of competitive entrance exams, open to anybody who meets the requisites set out in the rules of the call. The application period should open on 30 November and close on 19 December.
Besides accrediting at least a baccalaureate qualification or equivalent, all the other conditions from previous calls remain, such as:
- 40% of places reserved for women.
- Foreign language tests, which are not eliminatory but can improve candidates’ marks, with up to seven languages recognised: German, English, Arabic, French, Italian, Urdu and Chinese.
This recruitment call, part of the ongoing process to strengthen the corps and offer better service to the public, consists of 108 places included in the public sector employment prevision for 2023 and an additional 20 places which were not filled in 2021. Those gaining places will be able to start the training course at the Police School in October 2024.
There is also a possibility of adding more places needed to cover future vacancies coming up in 2024 and opening them up to candidates taking part in the process, once the recruitment process is approved, for them to join the corps in 2025.
How to access the corps
The process to join the City Police consists of seven tests: a cultural and theoretical test, aptitude tests, a foreign language test, a physical aptitude test, a Catalan test, personality and skills tests and medical tests.
The new rules will be published shortly in the Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia (DOGC) and include the requisites that applicants must meet to access the corps. Candidates will be able to apply from the day after the publication. They are already published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (in Catalan).
