The Commission for Ecology, Urban Planning, Mobility and Housing approved the awarding of the contract, which must guarantee the fourteen road infrastructures are in good condition and working order. The service does not include the city’s ring roads.
The new contract includes maintenance and the repair of any part of the tunnels, such as road surfaces, lighting, signage, air quality detectors, cameras, PA systems etc.
The main new aspect to the contract is the introduction of highly complex, functional, resilient and smart technological elements in the Glòries tunnel. Their design allows for real-time interaction with the monitoring service for the city’s tunnels, which can connect with the cameras and sensors.
First-response staff will also be increased for emergency situations.
The new contract will be for 36 months, with the possibility of a further 24.
