The declaration letter for a twinning agreement between Barcelona and Busan was signed on 25th October 1983.
The aim of the agreement is to maintain the relations that the two cities had initiated and to increase them with cultural and economic activities and exchanges, as well as all the initiatives that help to develop the feelings of friendship between the two peoples.

The Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI) is an international organisation which is municipal in character, non-governmental and non-profit.
CIDEU
Definition
The Ibero-American Centre for Strategic Urban Development (CIDEU) is a network of 154 members, of which 125 are Ibero-American cities, and 29 collaborating institutions. Its purpose is to promote the strategic way of thinking about the design and management processes of urban projects to achieve the sustainable development of Latin American cities. It was founded in Barcelona in 1993.
Casa Amèrica Catalunya Foundation
Definition
The Casa Amèrica Catalunya is a foundation inherited from various centenary projects that have provided Catalonia with information and cooperation with Latin America since the loss of the last Spanish colonies at the end of the 19th century.
Valparaíso
Information
The relations with this city started in the nineties and culminated in 2001 with the twinning agreement protocol. As with the case of Monterrey, Valparaíso wanted to be the venue for the third edition of the Forum of Cultures, which was finally organised in October 2010.
São Paulo
Information
In 1985 Barcelona was twinned with São Paulo and since 1990, when the cooperation agreement was updated, Barcelona and São Paulo have collaborated in topics of urban services and technologies, territorial system of information, organisation of the municipal administration, urban rehabilitation (historic centre), citizen information and promotion of SMEs.
Furthermore, a team from Barcelona elaborated a proposal of a Municipal Charter for São Paulo in 1992.
Rio de Janeiro
Information
Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro were twinned in 1972 and, since then, have maintained cordial relations, but without much intensity until the city of Rio was chosen to host the Olympic Games of 2016.

Monterrey
Information
In 1977, the cities of Barcelona and Monterrey were twinned, a fact that would lead to different ratifications of collaboration agreements, above all to deal with topics of urban planning.
As a result of this relation, the city of Monterrey was chosen to host and organise the second edition of the Forum of Cultures in 2007, taking on from the experience of Barcelona in 2004.
Monterrey is member of the CIDEU (Latin American Centre for Strategic Urban Development).
