Barcelona receives a CETT Alimara Award for its Check Barcelona tourist-management app

The CETT Alimara Awards are given out in recognition of the most innovative and transformative projects in the tourist, hotel and catering sectors.

The 37th CETT Alimara Awards held this 5 May rewarded projects from last year that had contributed an innovative vision in the area of experiences, digitalisation, sustainability and research applied to the tourist, hotel and catering sectors.

Barcelona carried off an award in the Through Digitalization category for its Check Barcelona project, the first website app in Europe to integrate the city’s various tourist attractions and experiences in an app where visitors can check out real-time information on services and crowd numbers, to avoid queues. Launched by Turisme de Barcelona and Barcelona City Council in collaboration with Eurecat, the website app also helps to manage crowd flows in more crowded spaces and offers alternatives to visit.

The Through Digitalization category rewards specific strategies or initiatives, as well as new business models, which highlight an organisation’s commitment to apply digital-area technologies for increased competitiveness and efficiency, with the aim of improving added value to customers and their user experiences.

The awards were presented during the Alimara Night ceremony. The Barcelona CETT Alimara Awards are organised by CETT, the benchmark Tourism, Hotel and Catering university centre attached to the University of Barcelona, together with the B-Travel Tourism Fair. The World Tourism Organisation and the Catalan government also collaborate with them.
