First Sunday with special opening hours in tourist areas
Commerce and markets. Shops and businesses can open from 12 noon to 8 pm.
Today, 19 May, is the first Sunday of the year when commercial establishments in the Area with a High Influx of Tourists (ZGAT) can open from 12 noon to 8 pm. Signed in 2022, the Social Agreement on Commercial Opening Hours makes this possible on all Sundays and public holidays from 15 May to 15 September.
Shops and business can open if they are located in zones 1 and 2 of the Special Urban Plan on Tourist Accommodation (PEUAT), which contemplates the following neighbourhoods:
- Ciutat Vella: El Raval, El Gòtic, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera and Barceloneta.
- Eixample: Nova Esquerra de l’Eixample, Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample, Dreta de l’Eixample, Sagrada Família, Fort Pienc and Sant Antoni.
- Sants-Montjuïc: Sants, Hostafrancs and part of the neighbourhoods of Poble-sec and Font de la Guatlla.
- Les Corts: Les Corts.
- Sarrià-Sant Gervasi: Sant Gervasi-Galvany, part of the neighbourhood of El Putxet i el Farró.
- Gràcia: Vila de Gràcia, La Salut, Camp d’en Grassot i Gràcia Nova and parts of the neighbourhood of Vallcarca i els Penitents.
- Horta-Guinardó: Baix Guinardó.
- Sant Martí: Vila Olímpica del Poblenou, Poblenou, Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou, Diagonal Mar and Fòrum Marítim del Poblenou.
The regulation is the result of the agreement in February 2022, by the Fundació Barcelona Comerç, Barcelona Oberta, PIMEC Comerç, Foment del Treball, the Associació Nacional de Grans Empreses de Distribució (ANGED), the UGT and CCOO, which will be in force until 31 December 2025.
The Monitoring Committee for the Social Agreement on Commercial Opening Hours, formed by all its signatories, will work with the City Council so that the measure generates more jobs and that workers’ labour rights are respected.
