Haute cuisine showcooking sessions at markets to accompany the 2024 Michelin Guide’s launch gala
In a programme entitled 'Your market has a star', Barcelona’s markets will be offering nine showcookings open to the public where chefs from Michellin-starred restaurants will be bringing haute cuisine to city residents.
This coming 28 November, chefs from nine Barcelona restaurants with 17 Michelin stars among them will be tasked with cooking at the launch gala of the 2024 Michelin Guide for Spain. In a programme entitled 'El teu mercat té una estrella' [Your market has a star], with their agreement with Michelin, Barcelona’s markets will be offering nine cookery sessions open to the public where chefs from Michellin-starred restaurants will be bringing haute cuisine to city residents.
Jordi Cruz, the Torres brothers and Paolo Casagrande will be coordinating the team of nine restaurants cooking for the launch gala, with Andreu Buenafuente as its master of ceremonies. Other chefs also taking part include Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas from the restaurant Disfrutar; Raül Balam, from the restaurant Moments; David Andrés from Via Veneto; Albert Adrià from Enigma; Albert Raurich from Dos Palillos; and Hideki Matsuhisa from Koy Shunka.
Aimed at promoting the city’s culinary excellence in-person at several points in Barcelona, the showcooking sessions can be attended by prior booking or watched online. They are as follows
- Market of Markets Fair, with the brothers Sergio and Javier Torres from the restaurant Cocina Hermanos Torres. Friday 20 October at 6 pm.
- Market of Markets Fair, with chef Oriol Castro from the restaurant Disfrutar. Saturday 21 October at 11:15 am. This activity will centre on a chat about food and creativity.
- Market of Markets Fair, with chef Alejandra Ormeño from restaurant Ají. Saturday 21 October at 12:15 pm.
- Market of Markets Fair, with chef Raül Balam from the restaurant Moments. Saturday 21 October at 5:30 pm.
- Market of Markets Fair, with chefs Francesc Beltri and Nicolás de la Vega from the restaurant Slow&Low. Sunday 22 October at 12:15 pm.
- Market of Markets Fair, with chef Rafa Bedoya from the restaurant Aleia. Sunday 22 October at 4 pm.
- La Guineueta Market, with chef Romain Fornell from the restaurant Caelis. Monday 30 October at 10 am.
- Escola ESHOB, with chef Artur Martínez from the restaurant Aürt. Tuesday 31 October at 10 am.
- Sants Market, with chef Fran López from the restaurant Xerta. Monday 6 November at 10 am.
The municipal market stalls will be providing the ingredients for cooking at both the showcooking sessions and the Michelin gala.
As part of the activities programme planned for the ceremony, a new edition of the Michelin Gala debateis also planned for this coming 13 November at La Pedrera – Casa Milà, under the slogan ‘El vi és gastronomia’ [Wine is gastronomy] where the journalist specialising in wines and winner of the 2023 National Gastronomy Prize for Gastronomic Communication, Amaya Cervera, will be moderating a gathering dedicated to the prominent role of wine in the world of gastronomy.
