Impulsem el que Fas programme has selected 9 responsible and sustainable tourism projects for the 2022

Sustainable tourism. ‘Come to the neighbourhoods’ and ‘Submarine itineraries in Barcelona – ISBarcelona’ are two examples of the selected tourism projects.

In this category, the selected projects foster responsible entrepreneurship and businesses that generate activities to encourage tourism in city areas, all linked to the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.

Barcelona City Council has allocated €37 million to funding 263 innovative local economic projects, adapted to the needs of individual neighbourhoods and promoted by those neighbourhoods and districts. This year’s edition of the Impulsem El Que Fas [We promote what you do] programme offers a record amount of money compared to previous campaigns, and it has also subsidised a higher number of projects.

The subsidies cover up to 80% of a project’s budget, an amount they receive immediately, so they can use this support to promote their activity, revitalising neighbourhoods and therefore entire city districts.

Jaume Collboni, the Deputy Mayor for Economy, Labour, Competitiveness and Finance, emphasised that “this year we have allocated a record budget to Impulsem El Que Fas, because we believe that strengthening the economy of our neighbourhoods, through local businesses that revitalise their areas and improve people’s lives, is one of the best possible responses to the current economic situation”, adding that “the balance of this initiative supports this because, thanks to this programme, we have subsidised 839 projects, with an impact on training and services that has reached 20,000 people and 5,000 businesses”.

The City Council sees the socio-economic promotion of an area as vitally important for cultivating and strengthening these local businesses. And furthermore, doing so in a way that is sustainable over time, helping to create a city which is resilient to economic fluctuations and external conditioning factors that could affect the lives of city residents and the solidity of businesses. In that regard, the initiative forms part of the comprehensive economic promotion of the various neighbourhoods, having an especially positive impact on the six districts with the most unfavourable economic indicators.

Category 4: Responsible and sustainable tourism

9 ‘Responsible and Sustainable Tourism’ projects have been selected. In this category, the selected projects foster responsible entrepreneurship and businesses that generate activities to encourage tourism in city areas, all linked to the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.

After six campaigns, from 2017 to 2022, this is an established programme in Barcelona. To date, €16.5 million has been allocated to the programme, subsidising 839 initiatives that have had an impact on training and services, reaching a total of 20,000 people and 5,000 businesses. Half of the funded projects involve initiatives and activities for people at risk of social exclusion.
