Gymkana Digital Turística is running a project called “Apropa’t al barris. Descobreix i aprèn jugant” [Discover the local neighbourhoods. Explore and learn through play] with support from Barcelona City Council's “We promote what you do 2022” subsidies, managed through Barcelona Activa
The treasure hunts are self-guided tours in game format where users have to solve puzzles that form part of the city’s architecture. This way, historical facts can be learned and previously untold stories uncovered by solving the puzzles; and at the same time the heritage of the city’s neighbourhoods is revealed and put under the spotlight.
This new way of discovering the city is totally digital; it’s free, suitable for people of all ages, and can be accessed by anyone with a mobile phone, with no need to download an app. The treasure hunts are available in Spanish, Catalan, French and English, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Users can access them from their mobile phone by clicking directly on the corresponding neighbourhood game that can be found on the following website: http://www.gymkanaturistica.com/Barcelona
Barcelona currently offers treasure hunts in Bon Pastor, Hostafrancs, Sant Genís dels Agudells, La Guineueta, Les Corts, Sant Martí de Provençals and Dreta de l’Eixample, although more routes in other neighbourhoods will soon be available.
Run by Gymkana Digital Turística, the project aims to introduce Barcelona’s least-known historical and cultural heritage to locals, visitors and tourists, enabling them to discover other areas of the city through treasure hunts.
Gymkana Digital Turística is committed to sustainable, digital, gamified, deseasonalised and decentralised tourism. Treasure hunts help to promote historical and cultural heritage through fun, enriching experiences for people of all ages.
