Bogatell Beach is celebrating World Music Day with two free symphonic concerts featuring the Liceu Symphonic Orchestra and the Barcelona Symphony and Catalan National Orchestra.

As part of Barcelona Obertura and the Clàssica a la platja [Classical Music on the Beach] programme, Bogatell Beach is hosting two symphonic concerts open to all citizens. The initiative aims to bring symphonic music to a diverse, extensive audience and promote classical and symphonic music.

The concerts, which are on 20 and 21 June, are being performed by the Liceu Symphonic Orchestra and the Barcelona Symphony and Catalan National Orchestra (OBC), with two programmes that are both demanding and popular.

The Liceu Symphonic Orchestra
Tuesday, 20 June, at 9 pm
Bolero (Ravel) and the New World Symphony (Dvořák)

The Barcelona Symphony and Catalan National OrchestraWednesday 21 June, at 9 pm
The Slavonic Dances (Dvořák), The Moldau (Smetana), Spanish Capriccio (Rimsky-Korsakov), L’Arlésienne (Bizet) and Empúries (Toldrà)

The stage will be on the sand, covered with a dome, and the concert will be projected onto three large screens, one on each side of the stage and a third in the middle of the beach. In this way, a minimum of 10,000 people will be able to see every detail, while the concert will be broadcast live by betevé, taking the event into everyone‘s homes.

These concerts re-establish an initiative promoted by L’Auditori from 2015 to 2019 to celebrate World Music Day. The baton is now taken up by two other great musical institutions in the city.

Barcelona Obertura

This programme is the result of a union between the three most important classical music venues in the city and the country. It aims to promote the city internationally through classical music, with a commitment to reaching out to everyone.

Meanwhile, Classical Music on the Beach is another example of the three institutions working together for the dissemination, enjoyment, knowledge and value of culture, promoting the image of an iconic, festive, happy, family-orientated city open to the sea and with its beaches as one more place to enjoy classical music.

Increased metro and bus service

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona will be increasing its metro and bus services for the “Classical Music on the Beach” concerts. Line 4 will have more trains in circulation in order to increase train frequency and more customer information officers, as well as security officers in the Llacuna and Bogatell metro stations. Services will also be increased on the 6, 59, H16, V23 and V25 bus lines.
