The Barcelona Tourism Observatory (City and Region), has published a report on the results of its 2023 survey on the tourist profiles and habits in the city of Barcelona. It shows that 59% of tourists opted for eating in a restaurant that serves Spanish cuisine during their stay.
As in the previous year, transport tickets for outward journeys were mainly purchased via the airline’s website (68.9%), and accommodation was booked via OTAs (online travel agencies) (59.8%).
In terms of transport, air travel was once again the most frequently preferred means of arriving in the city of Barcelona (82.4%), and tickets for outward journeys were primarily purchased via the airline’s website (68.9%). In regard to mobility within the city, during their stay, many tourists chose to walk, (38.4%) or travel by metro (31.8%); the most frequently visited location was La Rambla (81.4%) and the most common activity was eating out in restaurants (95.7%). The average evaluation score given for a stay in Barcelona was 8.7.
In regard to accommodation, most tourists preferred hotels (54.1%), and bookings were mostly made via OTAs (online travel agencies) (59.8%).
Most tourists visited the city with their partners (37.6%), for leisure and holiday purposes (69.1%). 29.7% of tourists either stayed overnight, or were intending to stay overnight, in another European destination during their trip. Furthermore, the average tourist return rate increased slightly in comparison to the previous year (4.9 times).
