Tibidabo’s 120th anniversary season gets under way
Free time. The funicular railway has been transformed into the Cuca de Llum (firefly), offering access to the park through a three-minute panoramic journey.
After an atypical year, Tibidabo re-opens on Saturday 15 May with all the measures needed to guarantee visitor safety, new shows and activities and a new means of access, which also becomes the park’s main attraction: the Cuca de Llum (firefly). The new attraction reinvents the former funicular railway, cutting the journey time to three minutes and offering spectacular panoramic views and educational content through screens and tablets.
The revamp to the funicular railway, with an investment of 19 million euros, reaffirms the move towards sustainable mobility set out in the Strategic Plan 2020-2025, which pursues a reduction of nearly 1,500 tonnes of CO2 in the next five years, some 23% less than at present.
The Cuca de Llum will be complemented by three Tibibus shuttle services to the station at the bottom of the funicular, and the creation of new green routes to get to the summit on foot.
Year of anniversaries
The park is celebrating its 120th anniversary throughout the season this year, with shows featuring the park mascots. It’s also the 15th anniversary of the Tibiclub, the annual membership scheme with discounts for families and over 18,000 users.
Membership can be purchased from the ticket booths at the park and the new Tibidabo Store, which opens in Passeig de Sant Gervasi in June. The registration fee will be free until 31 July and a new welcome package has been prepared, which includes a cuddly toy gift of one of the park mascots.
A committed Tibidabo
To mark the city’s current status as the world sustainable food capital, a show has been prepared to raise awareness and educate people on sustainability through various education workshops in collaboration with the Fundació Alícia. More eating options will also be available, with healthy menus added at different establishments.
Education initiatives such as the Fisidabo 2K will also be back, along with different teaching activities in science, technology and the environment, created and offered by park monitors.
Safe visits
In line with the protocols established by the health authorities, visitors are recommended to purchase tickets online in advance and the capacity at the site will be reduced to maintain distances between people. Other measures include:
- Obligatory use of approved face masks all around the park.
- Hand sanitiser points all around the park.
- Extra cleaning and disinfection of rides and facilities.
- Adapted eating options with food to take away.
The park has obtained an excellence rating for the Global Safe Site certificate, also gaining the Safe Tourism Certified stamp from the Spanish Institute for Quality in Tourism (ICTE) and the Safe Travels stamp, from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
