Strategic areas and objectives
One of the keys to the success of the strategic-formulation process for setting out the major lines of an economic plan is to have clearly defined areas, which are implemented in specific initiatives.
These initiatives aim to revitalise the economy, protect small business and, generally speaking, make progress towards achieving the goals set out. In short, the areas for making a Competitive, Sustainable and Equitable Barcelona are perfectly aligned with the aspirational vision we have for Barcelona.
01 / Competitiveness
The first strategic area is that of achieving a city with an active entrepreneurial ecosystem and a digital focus that attracts talent and is open to the international arena. Barcelona already has a high level of maturity in this regard, but this doesn't mean it can stop moving forward and consolidating the city’s positioning.
02 / Susteinability
The second strategic area is that of increasing the volume of the circular economy in Barcelona, attracting new economic activity hubs and generating the visitor economy. Tourism and industry are two of Barcelona’s economic cornerstones, and business models need to be transformed to ensure that their growth is not harmful to the city, its residents or its environment.
03 / Equity
The third strategic area is that of making Barcelona’s economy even more social and caring, promoting the local economy and guaranteeing employability among residents. While Barcelona is currently a leading city in terms of the social economy and openness, it needs to strengthen its mechanisms for helping city residents.
Barcelona Green Deal Objectives
In order to ensure the Green Deal is structured and includes responses to all the challenges and obstacles Barcelona faces, the strategic areas (Competitiveness, Sustainability and Equity) are broken down into objectives. These objectives each include a series of specific initiatives, creating a practical strategy at all levels.
