Activist learning and affection, a round table with Sarah Schulman, val flores and Gracia Trujillo

27/02/2025 - 11:48

The LGBTI Centre hosts a conversation between three feminist activists as part of the “Vincles” programme on Friday, 7 March, at 5 pm.

What bridges can we trace between the resistance of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the resistance to be found in today’s Argentina against Javier Milei’s government? What learning links these struggles with the actions carried out by the ACT-UP collective during the AIDS crisis in the USA?

These and other questions will guide the conversation “Activist learning and affection” between the writer and AIDS historian Sarah Schulman, who is part of the movement in support of the Palestinian people, and the writer, teacher and sexual dissident activist val flores, who lives, works and resists in Argentina. The conversation will be moderated by the trans-feminist activist, researcher and teacher Gracia Trujillo at the Barcelona LGBTI Centre (Comte Borrell, 22) on Friday, 7 March, at 5 pm.

This round table offers a dialogue about the importance of learning in social movements by exploring previous experiences, such as those of the ACT-UP collective. The goal is to collectively think about resistance to fascism and the current boycott campaigns such as the case of the struggle for a free Palestine.

We’ll be talking about the questions and challenges that identity policies generate in
scenarios of a shift to the right in politics (and in life), North-South frictions in policies to queerify knowledge, the (im)possibility of intergenerational dialogues and the (dis)orientation of our political imagination, among other topics.

Admission is free until capacity is reached. The session includes interpretation in Catalan Sign Language, by Fetesamans. Those attending will also have access to simultaneous translation from English into Spanish, but there will be a limited number of devices available for this.

The round table is part of the “Vincles” cycle, which offers different activities to celebrate and reflect on the ways we engage with sexual, affective and gender dissidences.
