Detect LGTBI-phobia
Have you heard of LGBTI-phobia? This is hatred or loathing of people who belong to the LGTBI collective. LGBTI-phobia involves several levels of violence. Beware of the first warning signs and act to stop it in its tracks or support the person suffering it.
By minor LGBTI-phobia we mean:
- A person or group of people using offensive expressions, through any medium, which intentionally incites violence against individuals or their family members on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression
- A person or group of people intentionally using offensive expressions in the media or public speeches inciting violence and with homophobic, biphobic or transphobic connotations.
- A person or group of people publicly, blatantly and explicitly isolating, rejecting or disparaging a person on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
By serious LGBTI-phobia we mean:
- A person or group of people intentionally and repeatedly using offensive expressions inciting violence against individuals or their family members on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
- A person or group of people damaging or destroying items or property of individuals or their family members on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, provided such actions do no constitute a felony or criminal offence.
- A person or group of people intentionally preventing another person from carrying out a procedure or accessing a public service or establishment open to the public on the grounds of that person's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
- A person or group of people intentionally and repeatedly using offensive expressions in the media or public speeches inciting violence and with homophobic, biphobic or transphobic connotations.
By very serious LGBTI-phobia we mean:
- A person or group of people harassing or behaving aggressively towards individuals or their family members on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
- A person or group of people organising public entertainment or recreational activities aimed at inciting hatred, violence or discrimination against LGBTI people.
- A person or group of people discriminating against you not just on the grounds of your being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersexual but also for your belonging to other groups that are subject to discrimination (multiple discrimination).
- Responsible bodies and other players implicated in a case of discrimination, harassment or reprisal exercising an additional form of abuse against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders or intersexuals.
