The tenora of Pep Ventura, again in Figueres
This year we celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Pep Ventura (1817-1875) and, in addition, Figueres is the Capital of the Sardana 2017. Figueres Town Hall and the Empordà Museum have organized several acts of homage, concerts and also a sample of objects linked to Pep Ventura, considered the great reformer and promoter of the modern sardana.
The Museum of Music of Barcelona participates with the temporary loan of the tenora that belonged to Pep Ventura and that already could be seen in 2009 in a monographic exhibition on the musician. The show The tenora of Pep Ventura was inaugurated last April 28 in the framework of the Fairs and Festivals of the Holy Cross, and can be visited until 17 September.
After many adventures and passing through the hands of politicians, collectors or notaries as the father of Salvador Dalí, the tenora of Pep Ventura came to the Museum of Music in 1943. It was built in Perpignan by Andreu Toron and is one of the oldest tenora known.
