Barcelona City Council, in coordination with the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy, are organising a session with the European Participatory Budget Caravan for Greener Cities, which is currently spending some months travelling around different places in Europe.
The meeting in Barcelona will be at the Canòdrom – Digital And Democratic Innovation Centre on 17 November and you can sign up here.
The European Participatory Budget Caravan for Greener Cities is an international event being held in different cities and focusing on participatory budgets from the perspective of climate and the environment. Each city will be sharing good practices and innovative responses relating to green aspects, the climate and young people in participatory budgets.
Sharing knowledge
The multiple consequences of climate change which affect our planet means the search for solutions is urgent, mainly at a local level. Fortunately, recent years have seen an increasing number of cities, including Barcelona, launch determined participatory budget projects centring on environmental, ecological, climate and energy matters.
In this respect, the caravan offers the chance to share accounts and experiences of green and climate-centred participatory budgets, as well as to acquire knowledge on how to implement them in cities, from the point of view of technical matters, logistics and the participatory process.
The project shows that participatory democracy is essential for combating the dramatic effects of climate change, which particularly affect the most vulnerable, with a double perspective of social and climate justice.
