Barcelona markets to get Michelin stars
City Council. Markets will be offering cooking sessions open to the public, with chefs from Michelin-star restaurants.
As part of the programme “Your market’s got a star”, various municipal markets are offering nine cooking sessions open to the public, where chefs from Michelin-star restaurants will be bringing fine cuisine to the general public. The ‘Michelin Guide to Spain 2024’ is being presented on 28 November, with chefs from nine Barcelona restaurants which hold 17 stars between them tasked with cooking during the gala.
Jordi Cruz, the Torres brothers and Paolo Casagrande will be the coordinators of the team from the nine restaurants cooking for the presentation gala, with Andreu Buenafuente as the master of ceremonies and the following chefs taking part:
- Jordi Cruz – ABaC (three Michelin stars).
- Germans Javier and Sergio Torres – Cocina Hermanos Torres (three Michelin stars and a Michelin green star).
- Paolo Casagrande – Lasarte (three Michelin stars).
- Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas – Disfrutar (two Michelin stars).
- Raül Balam – Moments (two Michelin stars).
- David Andrés – Via Veneto (one Michelin star).
- Albert Adrià – Enigma (one Michelin star).
- Albert Raurich – Dos Palillos (one Michelin star).
- Hideki Matsuhisa – Koy Shunka (one Michelin star).
Various live cooking sessions will be held between 20 October and 6 November to promote the city’s culinary excellence in person at different points around Barcelona. Members of the public can attend with a booking or follow the sessions online:
- Mercat de Mercats fair with the brothers Sergio and Javier Torres, from the restaurant Cocina Hermanos Torres. Friday, 20 October, at 6 pm.
- Mercat de Mercats fair with the chef Oriol Castro from the restaurant Disfrutar. Saturday, 21 October, at 11.15 am. This session will centre on a talk about gastronomy and creativity.
- Mercat de Mercats fair with the chef Alejandra Ormeño from the restaurant Ají. Saturday, 21 October, at 12.15 pm.
- Mercat de Mercats fair with the chef Raül Balam from the restaurant Moments. Saturday, 21 October, at 5.30 pm.
- Mercat de Mercats fair with the chefs Francesc Beltri and Nicolás de la Vega from the restaurant Slow&Low. Sunday, 22 October, at 12.15 pm.
- Mercat de Mercats fair with the chef Rafa Bedoya from the restaurant Aleia. Sunday, 22 October, at 4 pm.
- Mercat de La Guineueta with the chef Romain Fornell from the restaurant Caelis. Monday, 30 October, at 10 am.
- Escola ESHOB with the chef Artur Martínez from the restaurant Aürt. Tuesday, 31 October, at 10 am.
- Mercat de Sants with the chef Fran López from the restaurant Xerta. Monday, 6 November, at 10 am.
Stalls at municipal markets will be providing the ingredients for the live cooking sessions and the Gala Michelin.
As part of the programme of activities ahead of the ceremony, a new edition of the Gala Michelin debate is being organised at La Pedrera – Casa Milà on 13 November, under the slogan “Wine is gastronomy”. The wine journalist Amaya Cervera, winner of the National Gastronomy Award 2023 for gastronomy communication, will be moderating a meeting devoted to the important role of wine in the world of gastronomy.
