Ceptrotada, Encesa de la Porta de l'Infern and Correfoc
Ceptrots (sceptres), pitchforks and banners of the colles feature lighting in which iconic figures such as Llucifer (Lucifer), the Diablessa (she-devil), the Diable Gros (Big Devil), preparing the ground for the fire show. Following this is the lighting of the Porta de l’infern (Hell's gate) which marks the start of the Fire run. When the pyrotechnics burn out, the gates of this huge structure open and devils, dragons and fire beasts start to pour out and begin their rampage along passeig de Gràcia. Since its debut in 1979 as a Display of Fantastic Beasts, the Fire Run has established itself as an iconic part of La Mercè and a fundamental tradition in Catalonia.
