Clàssica a la Platja [Classics on the Beach] is back this summer on 11 and 12 July, expanding its format and featuring internationally renowned artists. In collaboration with Barcelona Obertura, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de la Música and L’Auditori, it will be offering concerts with the best conductors of the day: Gustavo Dudamel and Ludovic Morlot, with a programme accessible to all audiences. Two big outdoor concerts, open to all members of the public, in collaboration with Fundació “la Caixa”, which will be taking place on the beach of Sant Sebastià.

The first concert, taking place on 11 July, will feature the Barcelona Symphony and Catalan National Orchestra, under the direction of their head conductor, Ludovic Morlot, and the Orfeó Català, accompanied by big Catalan vocalists such as soprano Serena Sáenz and baritone Josep Ramon Olivé and big international names such as mezzosoprano Rinat Shaham and the tenor Freddie de Tommaso. The repertoire will be an ode to the anthems of major sporting events and will include popular pieces such as the last movement of L.V. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the aria Nessum dorma by Turandot de G. Puccini, C. Orff's O Fortuna and the legendary song Barcelona, which Freddie Mercury composed for Montserrat Caballé and the 1992 Olympic Games.

The second concert, scheduled for 12 July, will star the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, with the participation of two internationally renowned soloists, violinist María Dueñas and cellist Pablo Fernández, and with the collaboration of the Orfeó Català children’s choir. Spectators will get to enjoy a repertoire for all audiences with a selection of the most iconic compositions by well-known composer John Williams. During the evening, they will be performing pieces from Superman, Jurassic Park, E. T., Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. An evening by the sea for enjoying with family and friends.

And in order to bring music to vulnerable groups who are unable to come to the beach, the Orfeó Català's Cor Petits and Cor Mitjans choirs will be giving a number of performances and workshops at old people's homes in the neighbourhood, and the Palau de la Música Catalana's chamber choir will be offering a free performance at the Mar Hospital in Barcelona.
