Literary awards given in Barcelona
A large number of literary, cultural and editorial awards are announced and presented every year in Barcelona in recognition of poetry, fiction or plays, as well as translations, publishers, book shops or public figures who help support, promote and publicise local and international literature and culture.
Organised by the Associació Col·legial d'Escriptors de Catalunya, the Centro Español de Derechos Reprográficos and the Gremi d'Editors de Catalunya, the Angel Crespo award is presented every year to a poem, fictional novel or play translated into Spanish.
In homage of the writer, musician and illustrator Apel·les Mestres (1854-1936) and to foster and promote works combining text and illustration, the publishing house Destino has been presenting the Destino Apel·les Mestres award since 1981 to the best illustrated album.
Since 1986, the Gremi d'Editors de Catalunya has been presenting the Atlàntida award to a public figure for their work in promoting reading and their commitment to culture. Jordi Savall, Joan Manuel Serrat, Javier Solana, José Manuel Blecua or Isabel Coixet are just a few of the previous winners.
