Open call for Melbourne UNESCO City of Literature virtual writers in residence program 2022

This year will be the second year in a row that this program has been launched, aimed at authors from various literary fields.

The virtual writers in residence program by Melbourne UNESCO City of Literature has already opened the call for 2022. Until the 28th of August, authors from different literary fields can apply for a place in one of the 10 participating organisations across Melbourne, and Victoria. This virtual stay will consist of producing specific content that will be agreed upon with the institutions and can entitle different formats. Eligible candidates will also be able to enjoy various meetings with the other residents and will also be able to be in contact with the other participating organisations. In addition, they will be paid AUD$2,000 to cover the copyright for their work.

From poets to playwriters, they are welcome to this program, since, in the same way, the institutions that are part of it are also of very varied natures. These are Brimbank Libraries, Childrens Book Council of Australia, Geelong Regional Library Corporation, Emerging Writers Festival, Kill Your Darlings, Melbourne Writer’s Theatre, Moreland City Libraries, Sticky Institute, Werribee River Association and Writers Victoria. Each of them is looking for specific requirements in its resident author. You can check the specifics on the Melbourne UNESCO City of Literature website.

The main requirement for applicants is to reside in one of the UNESCO Cities of Literature. On the website, you will find all the information necessary to fill out your application form. The residencies will take place next November.
