Barcelona continues to be one of the five cities in the world chosen to hold international congresses and regains first place in terms of number of participants

Barcelona is once again the city with the most participants and meetings at international congresses. In 2022, it welcomed 135,000 representatives. This data was collected in the first report of the Barcelona Observatory, promoted by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the City Council, which provides an inside look at the Catalan capital's fortunes through economic and business indicators every year.

The Barcelona Observatory’s 2023 report, now in its 21st edition, reveals that the Catalan capital is consolidating its position as a leading city in sectors such as congresses.

The document includes data indicating that Barcelona has regained pole position in the world in terms of the number of representatives participating in this type of event: in 2022, it welcomed 135,000 delegates, more than Vienna (105,000) and Paris (101,000).

According to the report, Barcelona is the only destination in the world that, for the past 21 years, has remained among the top five in the ranking of preferred cities in which to organise international congresses, a leadership that is reinforced by its status as the permanent venue of the Mobile World Congress (MWC Barcelona).

In terms of the number of congresses held, it remains in fourth place. In 2022, a total of 133 were held.
