Return of the Little Market of Markets

The second edition of the Little Market of Markets is being held at the Mercat de Sant Antoni on 10 and 11 May, offering a celebration to bring the Market of Markets fair closer to the city’s neighbourhoods. The stalls at the Mercat de l’Eixample will be presenting sustainable culinary market culture to members of the public. The market includes children’s activities, market tapas, market produce, culinary workshops and musical performances, plus live cooking by various renowned chefs. This year’s Little Market of Markets is part of the Cultural Regatta, the programme of activities to accompany the America’s Cup.

TheLittle Market of Markets will be held outside the Mercat de Sant Antoni and in the squares in the streets of Tamarit and Comte Borrell, from 11 am to 10 pm.

Stallholders from market stalls selling fish, seafood and meat will be joining market bars to take to the square in C/ Tamarit, offering people tastings of their products. Visitors can buy tapas directly at the stands for a price of 3 to 5 euros and enjoy the tastings offered by different operators. There will also be a space with barbecues, where staff will cook produce that people purchase at the market, enabling them to taste fresh produce purchased from the stalls. Various bars will also be offering beers, aperitifs, wines and other drinks.

The second edition of the Little Market of Markets also includes workshops on making escabeche marinades, kombucha and children’s hamburgers. Other highlights include direct cooking displays headed by renowned chefs such as Paco Pérez (restaurant Miramar, Llançà), Lena Maria Grané and Ricky Smith (restaurant Baló, Barcelona) and Jordi Esteve (restaurant Nectari, Barcelona).

There will also be musical performance and play-based activities for children, including the installation U-Smart Toys, an initiative by Mobile World Capital Barcelona combining architecture, engineering and urban furniture to make smart cities a ludic experience.
