Registration open for the workshops to be held as part of the 6th Annual Conference of the LGTBI Centre: “Dissident consent. Queer spaces, affection and practices”

06/11/2025 - 10:08

The workshops, due to take place on 20 and 21 November at the LGBTI Centre, will be more practical and participatory in nature

The Barcelona LGBTI Centre is organising a meeting on 20 and 21 November entitled “Dissident consent. Queer spaces, affection and practices”, as part of its sixth annual meeting.

The meeting will look at consent and its relationship with queer spaces, affection and practices. Taking queer experiences as a starting point, we’ll discover how these not only displace the heterosexual thread about consent, but also offer other narratives in terms of pleasure, risk and play.

Over the course of these two days, two more participatory and practical workshops will be organised. Participation at these workshops is free, but prior registration is essential, as places are limited.

“Beyond Yes and No: Real Listening and Somatic Consent”, led by Ron Eis

This workshop will be divided into two sessions:

Session 1: Real Listening and Somatic Consent

Thursday 20 November – 6 to 8 pm

This session will offer an introduction to somatic consent from an anti-punitive and anti-cancellation perspective, positioning consent as a shared responsibility, rooted in mutual care and interdependence.

We will look at power dynamics, the spectrum from yes to no and the iceberg of consent in addition to practising how to connect with our bodily sensations through somatic exercises and work in small groups.

 Session 2: Complacency and Consent

Friday 21 November – 12.30 to 2.30 pm

We will talk about people-pleasing, its roots in trauma and systems of oppression, and how it distances us from building sustainable and consensual relationships.

Through dynamics and reflections, participants will learn tools to cultivate bonds based on trust, honesty and mutual care.

The workshop will be led by Ron Eis, writer, educator in consent, boundaries, somatic healing, and collective care, and promoter of Consent Rebels, a project that explores consent and boundaries from a somatic, anti-capitalist, queer, and community perspective.

Participation in both workshop sessions is recommended, but not required.

“Naming the Invisible”, led by Alicia Ramos de la Llave

This project aims to lay the foundations for an awareness and prevention programme around the violence that exists within queer or LGTBIQA+ dissidence, addressing topics such as the influence of romantic love or the types of violence common to gender violence, while delving into those more specific violences that occur within the community.

The workshop pursues an active and participatory methodology, based on group dynamics, open debates and the analysis of real cases. Participants will play an active role in the learning and critical reflection process.

The workshop will be divided into two sessions:

Session 1: Between myths and stereotypes: flawed stories and narratives

Friday 21 November – 10.30 am to 12.30 pm

The first activity as part of this session will be a discussion about the myths of romantic love, viewing fragments of films or series that support this ideal.

We will then look at the stereotypes that connect people’s gender expression to the fact that they exercise or are subject to violence. Other stereotypes that make it difficult to identify violence in relationships will also be analysed.

Session 2: Making violence visible: analyses, cycles and resources

Friday 21 November – 4 to 6 pm

The first activity will analyse the different types of violence, with an emphasis on those specific to the LGTBIQA+ community, with real cases of violence analysed to identify the relevant elements.

We will then look at the cycle of violence and how it works, with a reading of fragments from the novel “En la casa de los sueños”, by Carmen María Machado

Finally, different resources, studies, bibliography and awareness campaigns will be provided in relation to this form of violence in the context of the Spanish state.

The workshop will be facilitated by Alicia Ramos de la Llave, Equality champion and promoter of the project “Nombrando lo invisible”, the aim of which is to enhance the visibility of the taboo that is violence within the LGTBIQA+ community.
