In January, a group of students studying Planning and Development at the City University of New York (CUNY) visited Barcelona City Council to find out first-hand how the city is tackling Agenda 2030 challenges.

Visiting Barcelona to study the city’s sustainable development model, the students attended a presentation on the localisation and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the Agenda 2030, led by Ramon Canal, director of Barcelona City Council’s Technical Programming Office.

During the meeting, Mr Canal explained how the Agenda 2030 indicators system is being used to measure Barcelona’s progress towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030.

At the end of the presentation, the students and the municipal technicians engaged in a very interesting debate to compare the challenges and urban policies of New York and Barcelona.
