Goal 13:

Climate action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Icon of the Sustainable Development Goal 13 of the 2030 Agenda

SDG 13 requires measures that combat climate change, which focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the agreements established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

On a local level, efforts to adapt to the effects of climate change are just as important or even more important. These include structural transformations (more vegetation, more efficient water use) and foresight regarding exceptional situations such as heat waves, storms or other possible disasters. Logically, a change of this magnitude requires a substantial investment in education, awareness campaigns, and individual and institutional training.

  • UN Targets
  • What we are doing

13.1 Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries

13.2 Incorporate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and plans

13.3 Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity with regard to climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning

13.a Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of jointly mobilising $100 billion a year by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries with regard to the adoption and transparent implementation of meaningful mitigation measures, and to fully operationalise the Green Climate Fund by capitalising it as soon as possible

13.b Promote mechanisms for raising the capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, focusing particularly on women, youth and local and marginalised communities
