The report on the Barcelona + Sustainable Agenda 2030 Awards is now available
The “Promoting the Sustainable Development Goals” (“Impuls als Objectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible”) document aims to review the three editions of the Barcelona 2030 Agenda Awards, with more than 180 entries submitted and around thirty projects recognised. It also covers the four conferences held between 2021 and 2025 to raise awareness and encourage debate on the SDGs.
Barcelona City Council has published the report entitled Promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. Report on the awards and conferences of Barcelona’s 2030 Agenda (2021–2025), bringing together the main municipal actions to promote, raise awareness and disseminate the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the city.
The document highlights the role of promotion, awareness-raising and public dissemination regarding the 2030 Agenda, and reviews two key initiatives promoted in this area, namely the Barcelona 2030 Agenda Awards and the Barcelona 2030 Agenda Conference.
The honorary awards recognise the most outstanding projects and initiatives in promoting the SDGs. Since their creation, three editions have taken place.
- The first edition (2022) recognised ten projects and initiatives from different fields, including businesses, social organisations, media outlets and educational centres, from a total of 75 entries submitted.
- The second edition (2023) recognised nine winning projects, one joint second prize and three special mentions, with 42 competing entries.
- Finally, the third edition (2024-2025), under the name Barcelona + Sustainable 2030 Agenda Awards, added new fields linked to the collaborative challenges for the city set out in the Citizen Commitment for a More Sustainable Barcelona 2024-2034 (“Compromís ciutadà per una Barcelona + sostenible 2024-2034”). Apart from the “SDGs” category, which focuses on people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships, the latest edition included the “Sustainability Challenges” category, which addressed decarbonisation and water conservation. A total of nine projects received recognition and two special mentions were awarded from 68 entries.
Over 180 applications and around 30 award-winning projects have helped reinforce the collective commitment to the SDGs, with initiatives ranging from education for sustainability to social and environmental innovation.
The publication also looks back at the four editions of the Barcelona 2030 Agenda Conference. This annual event provides a space for public debate and the exchange of experiences between institutions, organisations, businesses and citizens with a view to moving towards more sustainable and resilient cities.
