Writers in residence in Dunedin, New Zealand

The stay will be next fall and applications can be submitted until April 14.

Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature and the Caselberg Trust are opening the call for applications for a Caselberg Trust Margaret Egan writing residency. The aim of the program is to offer international writers –linked to UNESCO Cities of Literature– and from Aotearoa New Zealand the opportunity to work on a piece of creative writing and encourage connections between them. The stay will be six weeks long, from October 3 to November 14, 2023, and there is time to submit applications until April 14.

The organisation informs that there will be no limitation of genres, languages, or length of the text created during the residency, and in fact, the completion of the project will not be a requirement. The resident will receive a stipend of NZ$4,000, and up to a further NZ$3,000 towards travel expenses. Energy and heating costs during the stay are borne by the resident. There will be a broadband Internet connection, at no cost to the resident. The dates of the stay will coincide with the biennial Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival, and the Festival Trust will make available to the residents a festival pass and entry to the green room for all events taking place there.
