Two Nobel Literature Prize winners take part in the CCCB cycle 'Europa'
They are Olga Tokarczuk and J. M. Coetzee, and also will be there the writers Edurne Portela and Mathias Énard and the editor Valerie Miles.
From 27 to 30 September, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) will host the “Europa” cycle, a space for imagining a new meaning for the continent, “recovering and expanding the confidence in the future of its beginnings”, according to the organisation, which adds: “From literature, we will imagine new narratives that will explore the diversity and complexity of our times and open up new horizons for the future of the continent”.
Indeed, literature will be one of the main protagonists of this cycle, as the Nobel Prize winners Olga Tokarczuk and J. M. Coetzee, as well as the writers Mathias Énard and Edurne Portela and the editor Valeria Miles will be taking part. Also, you will be able to follow the participation of philosophers Lea Ypi and Srećko Horvat and political scientist Blanca Garcés.
Tokarczuk will open the event on the 27th by talking about her career and inviting those present to think of literature as a territory in which to write another history for Europe. Two days later, Énard and Portela will talk about the role of literature in the imagination of today’s Europe. And on the 30th, Coetzee and Miles will address themes such as visions of Europe in non-European literature, the place of Russia in (or outside) Europe, and the expansion of English as a world language.
Each session costs €3 and tickets can be bought in advance.
The cycle takes place within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU and has the support of the Coordination Office of the Spanish Presidency of the EU.
