The application period for the Iceland Writers Retreat 2024 is open
The event will take place in the Icelandic capital in April next year and will feature writers such as Jeannette Walls, Omar El Akkad and Phil Klay.
Writing workshops in small groups and for all levels, workshops and reading clubs, literary itineraries around the Icelandic capital… All this and much more will be on offer to those who come to the Iceland Writers Retreat and the Iceland Readers Retreat from 24 to 28 April, a literary retreat supported by various organisations and institutions, including Reykjavík, UNESCO City of Literature.
Registration to attend the event is now open, as well as the application period for grants for authors who need financial support to attend the event. There is the option of applying for full or partial funding. Full funding includes a participant fee, four nights’ accommodation at the Retreat Hotel (Foss Hotel Reykjavik) and round-trip flights to Iceland. Partial funding only covers the participant fee, not the accommodation or the round-trip flight.
Any author aged 18 or over on 24 April 2024 can apply for a grant, and those who are awarded one must be able to demonstrate that they do not have the financial means to attend the conference without this grant. Candidates do not necessarily have to be professional writers, but they must be interested in the craft of writing and be interested in developing the workshops that take place there, as well as attending the other activities. There is time to submit applications until 31 October.
Among the confirmed authors who will be leading a workshop at the next Iceland Writers Retreat are Jeannette Walls, Katie Kitamura, Hari Kunzru, Meg Wolitzer, Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Phil Klay, Omar El Akkad, Frida Isberg, Vivek Shraya, Deirdre Mask and Nicole Krauss.
