An exhibition explores the dialogue between images and contemporary Catalan poetry
It can be visited at Biblioteca de Catalunya until 20 December.
From Santiago Rusiñol and Miquel Utrillo to Rosa Leveroni and Alfons Maseras, the exhibition Imatge & Poesia. Poètiques de la modernitat, curated by Margarida Casacuberta and Aitor Quiney, proposes a journey from the ideal of art for art’s sake to the defence of poetry as a retaining wall against fascisms. The exhibition, which is presented chronologically in four areas, will be at the exhibition hall of the Biblioteca de Catalunya (BC) until 20 December.
The aim of the proposal is to explore the dialogue between image and poetry in the context of the evolution of contemporary Catalan poetry from the eighties of the 19th century, with the emergence of the Symbolist revolution, to the end of the Spanish Civil War, with the ruptures of 1939. This broad chronological framework aims to situate the development of the Catalan literary and cultural sphere in the context of European modernism (modernity) and to show how the movements that have so far served to explain the period (Renaissance, Modernism, Noucentisme, avant-gardes) correspond to the internal dynamics of a national literary camp in the process of construction and definition.
