Kraków announces a call for a residency
It is aimed at emerging authors who have at least one published book and are working on a writing project.
Kraków UNESCO City of Literature announces the 2023 call for the International Residency Program for writers and translators. It is promoted by the Kraków Festival Office, operator of the Kraków UNESCO City of Literature program in collaboration with the Villa Decius Institute for Culture. The deadline for submitting applications is April 23.
The program is aimed at emerging writers and poets who have at least one published book and are currently working on a writing project.
A two-month stay is offered, from July 1 to August 31. Residents will stay at Villa Decius. In addition to the stipend (2500 PLN gross/month), the organisation covers transportation costs to and from Kraków. The Kraków Festival Office will guarantee residents the opportunity to participate in the city’s literary life and help develop opportunities for them to promote their works in Poland.
Those who wish to apply must meet these requirements:
– Connection with any UNESCO City of Literature outside Poland.
– At least one published book (fiction or non-fiction), a collection of poetry, screenplay, or play script.
– Work on a literary project during the residency.
– Upper-intermediate level of spoken English.
– Interest in the Central European region.
– Willingness to participate in the literary life of Kraków, including events, meetings, promotional interviews and engagements, and festivals, if applicable.
– Residents will be asked to write a text (fiction or non-fiction) featuring the city of Kraków (from a minimum of 6,000 to a maximum of 11,000 characters with spaces).
The documentation must be sent to residencies@miastoliteratury.pl.
