Wed, 13/03/2024 - 13:01
David Walliams, announcer of Lectura 2024
The writer and actor will be the author of the opening speech, which will take place on Monday 22 April, at 6 p.m., at the Gabriel García Márquez Library.
David Walliams (London, 1971) combines his work as an actor with that of a writer of novels for young people. In 2013 he published his first book for young people, Ratburger, which began a long series. He has published six novels, with which he has won public and critical support, and has become the best-selling author for young people of the moment in the United Kingdom. Walliams has surpassed 56 million copies of his works, which have been translated into more than 55 languages, and the press has dubbed him “the Roald Dahl of the 21st century”. Billionaire Boy, Bad Dad, The World’s Worst Children, The Slightly Annoying Elephant and Gangsta Granny (Atrapallibres Award 2014-2015) are some of his best-known stories.
The British author has also triumphed as a comedian in the series Little Britain and Rock Profile and has been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
David Walliams joins the list of announcers who since 2003 have taken part in this honorary event in the city of Barcelona, organised by Biblioteques de Barcelona: Quino, José Saramago, Martí de Riquer, Emili Teixidor, Antonio Tabucchi, Alessandro Baricco, Bernardo Atxaga, José Luis Sampedro, Josep Maria Castellet, Raimon, Albert Sánchez Piñol, Donna Leon, John Banville, Claudio Magris, Yasmina Reza, Almudena Grandes, Mia Couto, Empar Moliner, Irene Vallejo, Imma Monsó and, the last announcer, Gemma Ruiz Palà.
