Forum Edita moves to Guadalajara to coincide with FIL

The annual event of the publishing sector will analyse global and regional trends from Mexico.

Forum Edita, one of the most important events in the international publishing sector, will hold its 2024 edition in Guadalajara, Mexico, coinciding with Spain’s participation as a guest country at the International Book Fair (FIL). This annual event, usually held in Barcelona, is being moved to Latin America for the first time with the aim of focusing on the trends and challenges of the publishing sector in the region.

Entitled ‘The Book Ecosystem in Latin America’, the meeting will take place on 3 December, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the participation of leading experts and professionals from the industry. The Forum will be co-directed by Patrici Tixis Padrosa, President of the Publishers’ Guild of Catalonia; Javier Aparicio Maydeu, Director of the Master’s Degree in Publishing at the UPF Barcelona School of Management; and Sergio Vila-Sanjuán, cultural journalist and publishing historian. The sessions will be presented by the journalist and writer Toni Iturbe.

The day will open with a presentation by Patrici Tixis, who will welcome the attendees. In the first part, entitled ‘Keys Events in the Publishing Industry 2024’, researcher Rüdiger Wischenbart will present the main global trends that have marked this year. Afterwards, a round table moderated by Aparicio Maydeu will explore the challenges and opportunities for the sector in Latin America, with the participation of representatives from Penguin Random House, Planeta México and the Spanish Federation of Publishers’ Guilds.

The second block, under the slogan ‘The Necessary Education’, will focus on the importance of bringing reading closer to the new generations. Joan-Carles Mèlich and Paulo Cosín will give talks on the formation of good reading habits and the role of reading as the backbone of education in the current context of the technological revolution.

The day will end with a round table dedicated to ‘Public Procurement in Latin America’, in which various experts will discuss the mechanisms of public procurement of books in different markets in the region. It will be moderated by Luis Zendrera.

Edita Forum can be followed in person and via streaming, and the sessions will be published later on YouTube. In addition, it will be followed on social networks to encourage global participation.
