Liber 2024 explores the role of AI in transforming the publishing industry

It will take place from 1 to 3 October at Fira de Barcelona and there will be 75 sessions with over 200 speakers.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also coming to Liber this 2024. The event will take place from 1 to 3 October at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, and there will be more than 75 activities programmed in which experts from all over the world will address the growing use of this technology, especially in terms of creativity, productivity, and legal and ethical implications.

One of the most debated questions will be how AI can facilitate the work of authors and editors, automating processes such as text correction, automatic translation or the creation of new content from learning algorithms. However, the use of these tools raises questions about copyright and the role of human creativity in an increasingly automated environment.

But not only AI will be discussed at this professional conference organised by the Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds. Also on the agenda will be issues such as sustainability in book production and the future of digital distribution, at a time when the transition to electronic formats and audiobooks is transforming the consumption habits of new generations of readers. Likewise, there will be spaces where issues such as the promotion of reading among children, the present and future of libraries and on-demand printing will be discussed.

The sessions will also include preparations for Spain’s participation as a guest country at the Bogota International Book Fair (Filbo) 2025, as well as the presence of Barcelona as a guest city at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in 2024. It will also host the presence of Ukrainian and Chilean literature.

Liber 2024 will bring together more than 350 publishers and companies from the sector in Barcelona, who will present their catalogues, news and services related to the marketing and distribution of books. It is sponsored, among others, by Barcelona City Council.
