Literal, ten years of critical thinking

A hundred independent publishers and bookstores will participate in the new edition of Literal, the book and radical ideas fair that will fill the Fabra i Coats exhibition centre with critical reflections during the weekend of May 25th and 26th. In addition, on the 24th and 25th will be held the professional space of the fair. It will be one of the most special editions held so far, as it will be number 10 and the organization is preparing different surprises and has invited renowned speakers such as Angela Davis, Yayo Herrero, Rita Segato, Marina Garcés, Vandana Shiva or Sara Ahmed.

The book market, open all day, will be as every year the central axis of Literal, a space for meeting and community life that will fill the streets of Fabra i Coats. There you will find more than six thousand titles in the field of critical thinking. But the fair will also feature book presentations, debates, talks, storytelling and poetry. All activities are free and open to the public. Some of them are broadcast live on the Internet. There you will also find reading, games and gastronomic spaces.

Literal also has a close relationship with the public libraries of Barcelona. The fair facilitates the meeting between publishers and libraries. The publishers participating in the fair virtually present their novelties to the public libraries to stimulate the purchase of their titles and, at the same time, establish collaborations and encourage future reading clubs.

Literal is promoted by the Social and Solidarity Economy, and is a fair that wants, in the words of the organization, “to bring the general public closer to the culture that is made from the margins and thus make visible these other centres of cultural production”.
