Slamovision 2024, slam poetry without borders

The grand final of the international competition will be held in Manchester with representatives from fourteen UNESCO Cities of Literature.

On 12 December, Manchester will host the grand final of Slamovision 2024, a competition that this year brings together slammers from fourteen UNESCO Cities of Literature. This will be the sixth edition of an event that since 2019 has been called the ‘Eurovision of the spoken word’, as it highlights local talent on an international stage.

Organised for the second time in Manchester, the competition promises to be the biggest and most competitive yet. Each finalist has to overcome a local selection before aspiring to the title of champion. In addition to the performances of the finalists, the audience will be able to enjoy the contributions of the Multilingual Poets of Manchester and the current champion, Esther Koch.

This year Slamovision has these fourteen cities, three of which are newcomers: Bremen (Germany), Dublin (Ireland), Exeter (UK), Göteborg (Sweden), Iowa City (USA), Kutaisi (Georgia), Ljubljana (Slovakia), Manchester (UK), Nottingham (UK), Quebec (Canada), Reykjavik (Iceland), Tartu (Estonia), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Wroclaw (Poland). Many cities will perform in their mother tongue, including Dublin’s first participation in Irish.
