Who we are
Who we are
Barcelona City Council promotes the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) as a strategic commitment to the city's transformation. By means of the economic model we support, the city is becoming more democratic, sustainable, collaborative and equitable, with the well-being of our citizens at the centre of the model.
Barcelona City Council’s public policy to boost the SSE is organised around the following structures:
- The Directorate of Social and Solidarity Economy Services and Sustainable Food and the Department of Social and Solidarity Economy at Barcelona City Council.
- Barcelona Activa's Operational Department of Socio-Economic Innovation.
The Directorate of Social and Solidarity Economy Services and Sustainable Food and the Department of Social and Solidarity Economy at Barcelona City Council
The goal of the Directorate of Social and Solidarity Economy Services and Sustainable Food and the Department of Social and Solidarity Economy at Barcelona City Council is to build a plural, sustainable, fair and participatory economy. That means boosting, promoting and giving visibility to the city’s cooperative, social and solidarity economy, and helping to save jobs and create new ones, as well as mechanisms for satisfying non-monetary needs.
Barcelona Activa's Operational Department of Socio-Economic Innovation
Barcelona Activa’s Socio-economic Innovation area fosters and reinforces initiatives from SSE entrepreneurs, organisations and enterprises in the city, while adding a socio-economic innovation perspective.
We cooperate in boosting and consolidating cooperative, community and transformative projects, providing mentoring and training, to ensure sustainable local development. We do all that with the intention of making the SSE more widely known, helping to roll it out and ensuring the projects we promote have an impact on the whole of the economy. And we do it through InnoBA, Barcelona Activa’s socio-economic innovation centre.
