On 28 and 29 November, the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit will bring together the entrepreneurship and technology ecosystem in order to find the most disruptive solutions to the biggest global challenges.
The Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, being held for the second year running, is the epicentre of innovation and technological change. The Fira de Barcelona convention centre will bring together start-ups, spin-offs, universities, specialist investors, institutions and experts from the sector. The aim is to address such important challenges as climate change, the energy transition, connectivity, the new industrial era and biomedicine.
The Barcelona Deep Tech Summit is the sector’s biggest event in southern Europe. Following the success of the first edition, this year’s event is set to be even bigger, both in terms of space and the time dedicated to the congress. It is an initiative from Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, and 5 universities (UB, UAB, UPC, UPF and UOC). It is jointly organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Department for Research and Universities and ACCIÓ.
A programme with more than 50 speakers
The event will feature a packed programme of talks, panels, interviews, debates, workshops and prizes. There will be more than 50 speakers, among them Ariadna Font, founder and CEO of Alinia, who has worked for major companies such as IBM and Twitter, and Carlos Abellán, cofounder and CEO of Quside and specialist in quantum technology. Also participating are professionals like Camila Tomas, director of a tech team in the perfume industry, and Renita Kalhorn, executive coach who supports Deep Tech creators to improve their management skills.
The key aim of the event will be to connect the highest value technology with specialist investors who will be able to provide funds to the sector in order to get solutions to the market faster. To achieve this, there will be activities like the Investment Forum, where various high-potential start-ups will be able to pitch their products to specialist investors. Also, the Summit will feature the Global Innovation Area, an exhibition space where some fifty start-ups will be exhibiting their innovations throughout the event.
A number of talks will also be held, sharing the latest artificial intelligence trends, like building a business based on a PhD or how to tackle climate change through Deep Tech, among other issues.
The event will also feature the third edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech Awards, the award for the best Deep Tech start-up of 2023. Five previously selected start-ups will have the opportunity to show their innovations, and a jury of experts will select the best project. The 2022 award went to Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, which specialises in quantum computing.
