LGTBI. Final stretch of events for International LGBTI Pride Day

Barcelona has once again affirmed its status as a city of rights during the celebration of International LGBTI Pride Day. With the themes of “Neighbourhood Pride” and “Museum Pride”, the city has been filled with all kinds of activities. This Saturday, the Pride BCN march will be the grand finale.

The parade, supported by the Barcelona City Council, will take place on Saturday, 20 July, at 6 pm. It will start at Plaça de la Universitat and proceed to Passeig de Lluís Companys.

Pride BCN will conclude the activities marking 28 June, International LGBTI Pride Day, which is an opportunity to celebrate the progress that has been achieved and make it clear that sexual and gender dissidence and diverse family structures are an undeniable right and part of the beauty of our city.

Pride has also been celebrated in the neighbourhoods these days, with nearly a hundred activities throughout the city with the theme “Neighbourhood Pride”, featuring an intergenerational, transfeminist, and intersectional programme led by the Barcelona LGBTI Centre — managed by the Platform of LGTBI Organisations of Catalonia — as well as by civic centres, libraries, youth spaces and other local facilities in the city.

Furthermore, several museums in the city have once again joined the celebration by reinterpreting their spaces and collections from an LGBTI perspective.

Other activities in the city

Barcelona is known for embracing Pride, as evidenced by the many other events organised by various groups, associations, and organisations in the city’s community networks.

Two of the most prominent are Pride BCN and the Day of Sexual and Gender Liberation. This year, the latter was celebrated on Saturday, 29 June, at Plaça de la Universitat in Barcelona with the theme of “Challenging the Norm”.

City activities for LGBTI Pride Day have also included other events held by the many organisations working to promote and defend LGBTI rights.
