Take a “La putibarcelona trans*” tour with TiritiTrans Trans Trans

17/02/2023 - 09:25

This activity is sold out. Bookings for the next tour will open on 1 March.

The tour will be led by Violet Ferrer, a 44-year-old trans woman who, having suffered from gender-based discrimination and social exclusion, decided to present the reality of her community from a historical point of view.

Within the framework of “Our Bodies are Battlefields”, the Barcelona LGBTI Centre’s new series of activities, which runs until April, the first guided tour led by the group TiritiTrans Trans Trans will take place on Saturday, 18 February. Although this date is already sold out, bookings for the next tour, to be held on 18March open on 1 March.

The streets of Barcelona have witnessed – and continue to witness – many often hidden and invisible struggles. One of these is that of the LGBTIQA+ community, particularly trans* women’s fight for rights that they are yet to obtain. But the memory of those who have fought this fight in the past has left its mark on the city’s streets.

In this tour, participants will track the scars left on the city’s colourful appearance by decades of persecution and the need to hide. The humiliation, criminalisation and stigmatisation of trans* women and the impact they still have today.

Participants will cross invisible borders built by centuries of stigma. They will also learn how sex work has gradually evolved in Barcelona since the 17th century its impact on the structure of the city’s neighbourhoods and its expansion and social structure.

They will hear the echoes of the determined footsteps of those who worked their fingers to the bone on the city’s pavements (and those who continue to do so today). They are the people who, away from the glitter and sparkle of the showcase city, took a hostile area and made it their own.

The tour will be led by Violet Ferrer, a 44-year-old trans woman who, having suffered from gender-based discrimination and social exclusion, decided to present the reality of her community from a historical point of view in order to transform it. She is a member of TiritiTrans Trans Trans, a theatre company founded by six trans women willing to go on stage to fight prejudice.
