Safety and prevention. The definitive location will be in Av. Sarrià.

The urban planning change enables the fire station in the Parc de Joan Miró to be moved to the building which housed the Mercedes dealership, where Av. Sarrià and the streets of Comte d’Urgell and Londres converge. The new location responds to the needs of the emergency corps in terms of callouts and will allow them to improve the response service in their local area.

The Commission for Ecology, Urban Planning, Mobility and Housing has given initial approval for the Amendment to the General Metropolitan Plan (MPGM) for the fire station in L’Eixample and the reorganisation of urban greenery in the area, with the aim of two new inner gardens and making Plaça de Marcos Redondo bigger. The planning change will allow the facility to move to its definitive location.

A municipal initiative in the public interest, the MPGM should gain land for the fire station on the triangular site where Av. Sarrià and the streets of Comte d’Urgell and Londres converge. Currently classified for transformation into urban stock, part of the site will be classified for facilities, allowing for the station to be located there, and another privately owned part for commercial and tertiary uses to fund the operation, mainly offices and commercial uses.

The start of the administrative procedure for this urban planning instrument is part of the city’s grand strategic agreement, freeing up the future of various important facilities in L’Eixample. The definitive location of the fire station will, in turn, free up over 2,300 square metres of land that it occupies in the Parc de Joan Miró, also important as it unblocks the future of the Escola Entença, which will share space with the new CAP Casanova and a new sanitary facility linked to the activities of the Hospital Clínic Barcelona – Servei Català de la Salut.

In the case of the new fire station, which should bring a facility of 4,200 square metres on a site of 2,360 square metres, the proposal is for a building with a ground floor and three upper floors. The lower part of the site, with a surface of 860 square meters and a built space of 5,550 square metres will house the new tertiary building, which should have a maximum height of a ground floor and seven upper floors.
