Security and prevention. A minute’s silence was held in memory of those who have lost their lives in road accidents.

On the third Sunday in November, this annual commemoration pays homage to road accident victims and aims to raise awareness among drivers, institutions and society in general about the collective responsibility of avoiding accidents.

The ceremony was attended by institutional representatives and by the victims’ associations P(A)T and Stop Accidents. The tribute also included a reading of poems by various relatives and the laying of a wreath, concluding with a minute’s silence and various pieces of music.

Local Road Safety Plan 2025-2030

Barcelona City Council approved the Local Road Safety Plan 2025-2030 (PLSV) at the end of September. Together with the Urban Mobility Plan, they provide mobility planning and road safety tools for the city, with both plans working to achieve fairer, more sustainable and efficient mobility and reduce the risk of accidents.

The City Council promotes the plan with a “vision zero” strategy, one of the most influential in the international sphere to reduce road accidents and sets the goal of halving fatalities and serious injuries on the city’s roads by 2030, compared to 2019.

The City Police are a key part of the plan and are tasked with the following:

  • Speed cameras and speeding operations.
  • Control of black spots.
  • Information and education campaigns to promote safe conduct.
  • Post-collision management, speeding up response times in emergencies, coordinating with medical services and offering support to victims and their families.
  • Supervision and monitoring, offering real data on police activity, which serve to adjust measures and assess results.

The role of the Prevention Education Office (OEP) of the City Police also stands out. The office runs workshops for city schools and other educational activities aimed at the elderly.

Municipal Vision Zero Award

This Friday, the Asociación de Ingenieros de Tráfico y Técnicos de Movilidad, in collaboration with the Forum de Movilidad Inteligente, presented the Municipal Vision Zero Awards, which recognize municipalities and districts with a population of over 100,000 inhabitants and zero traffic fatalities during the previous year.

In the case of Barcelona, the districts of Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, and Sant Martí did not record any fatalities due to traffic accidents on their urban roads during the previous year.
