Barcelona Fire Service has taken delivery of its first fully electric advanced life support ambulance, strengthening its commitment to sustainable mobility.
The zero-emissions vehicle is equipped with the latest technology and an autonomy of approximately 240 kilometres in the urban setting. It has a Ford E-Transit chassis with 185 HP and a battery of 73 kWh.
The drop in temperatures brings an increase in the use of heaters ad other apparatus that generate heat, increasing the risk of fire in the home. Because of this, the Fire Service is launching its winter campaign with a clear goal: to reduce accidents and improve safety in homes.
The most important recommendations are:
- Check installations: make sure that heaters and hobs work correctly.
- Avoid electrical overloads: do not plug various high-consumption apparatus into the same socket.
- Control gas: switch off the supply when not in use and never use electric switches if there is a smell of gas.
- Do not leave lit candles unattended.
- Maintain distances: keep heaters away from curtains, sofas and clothing.
- Adequate ventilation in spaces with gas apparatus to avoid intoxication.
- In the case of fire: call 112 and follow the steps according to whether the fire is inside or outside the home.
The Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire Extinction and Rescue Service (SPCPEIS) is working on a new eight-year strategic plan with more than forty projects to prepare the city for emergencies. One of the key actions is to promote the installation of smoke detectors in homes, simple and inexpensive devices that can save lives.
In the period up to 30 November, the Barcelona Fire Service provided service in 23,781 cases, an average of 71 actions a day. Of these, 4,897 were for fires or explosions, and 1,984 were in private homes.
