Sant Jordi makes the literary superblock grow
The space available for books and roses will increase by 10.7% with the addition of La Rambla and Gran de Gràcia.
Sant Jordi 2023, which this year will fall on a Sunday, is taking shape. Barcelona will repeat the formula of the literary superblock premiered last year, but with some new features. This space, exclusive to pedestrians and where there will be stalls for books and roses, will incorporate La Rambla and Gran de Gràcia into the streets already “isolated” last year, this is Passeig de Gràcia, Rambla de Catalunya, Pau Claris and Balmes. Vehicles will indeed be able to drive through the streets of València, Aragó and Mallorca, and Consell de Cent “drops” from the superblock, since construction works are taking place to turn it into a green area.
In total, the superblock will have 10.7% more space, up to 154,000 square meters. In the case of La Rambla, as reported by the Booksellers’ Guild, from Plaça de Catalunya to Plaça Reial, florists and booksellers will be installed, while from this point to Santa Madrona there will be the organisations. In the presentation of the day, Jordi Martí Grau, deputy mayor of Culture, stated that “La Rambla had to have the same quality in Sant Jordi 2023 as Passeig de Gràcia”.
This large superblock will not be, by no means, the only point in Barcelona where you can breathe the traditional atmosphere of Sant Jordi: booksellers and professional florists will have other exclusive spaces, distributed throughout the different districts of the city. In addition, on April 21 and 22, establishments selling flowers and books will be able to set up their stalls in front of the store.
It is expected that there will be more than 400 book and rose stalls on April 23, surpassing the figure for 2022. Here you will find the information to request the installation of a stall.
