The Barcelona World Trade Center hosted the 11th NovaGob Public Innovation Congress on27 and 28 October, a key event for professionals in the Spanish and IberoAmerican public sector. The congress backs technology, values and people as drivers for the transformation of public administrations.

Over the two days, more than a thousand registered participants and nearly 200 speakers shared experiences, success stories and challenges to move towards a more open, digital and innovative administration.

The IMI took part in the programme with two key speeches:

  • Patricia Moreno, director of City Innovation and Technologies with the IMI, gave the speech “The Barcelona model for the ethical, democratic and sustainable adoption of artificial intelligence” as part of the section Ideas and cases of transformation and public innovation. Her speech highlighted the city’s responsible and people-centred commitment to AI.
  • Emili Rubio, the manager of the IMI, explained the “Strategic plan and new technological model to tackle the challenges of the digital transformation at Barcelona City Council“ in the section devoted to practical cases of innovation. The event highlighted the importance of a robust technological infrastructure to respond to the city’s new challenges.

NovaGob has become firmly established as a space for debate on public innovation in Spain and IberoAmerica. From its first edition in La Laguna to its latest edition in Barcelona, the congress has evolved and adapted to the times, with virtual editions during the pandemic and face-to-face meetings that have broken participation records.

With this edition, Barcelona reaffirms its leadership in digital transformation and public innovation, making the city a role model in the ethical and sustainable application of technology.
