Barcelona takes part in the 2025 Technology Tour with the participation of the IMI

Organised by @aslan association under the theme ‘AI + Digital Innovation. Major challenges and opportunities,’ reaffirming its commitment to digital innovation and technological transformation.

In this edition, Emili Rubió, Manager of the Municipal Institute of Information Technology, took part in the working breakfast ‘Opportunities and technological challenges in Catalonia,’ where he presented Barcelona’s digital strategy, based on advanced connectivity, digital infrastructures and services for citizens and businesses. The municipal fibre optic network, the deployment of 5G, the new data centre at La Sagrera, CityOS and Barcelona’s digital twin were highlighted as examples of projects that strengthen urban innovation.

He also stressed the importance of access to European funds for digitalisation, which have made it possible to finance key initiatives through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Horizon Europe programme, mobilising more than 18 million euros in projects with companies and research centres.

Finally, he reflected on the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity, highlighting its potential to anticipate and reduce risks, while also emphasising the need for ethical application and clear governance.

With this participation, Barcelona strengthens its commitment to moving towards a more digital, innovative city, prepared to face the challenges of the future.
