International Transgender Day of Visibility takes place on 31 March, with the aim of championing the rights of trans people and in response to hate speeches and transphobic assaults.

To celebrate this date, we at the Barcelona LGBTI Centre are reviewing the resources, cultural proposals and initiatives around the trans community.

  • Trans Group. Every third Tuesday of the month, from 6 pm to 8 pm, the Barcelona LGTBI Centre plays host to and promotes Trans Group meetings, a space for trans and non-binary people. This is a safe space for reflecting on sexual and gender diversity, for exploring your transition and for seeing and supporting others in the transition process. It also aims to be a space for sharing experiences and doubts and enriching our own and others’ points of view, always from a non-judgemental perspective towards others’ experiences. In sum: this is a space for creating links to other trans and non-binary people: a space for being. The next Trans Group meeting will be on 19 April and requires prior registration by email to inscripcions@centrelgtbibcn.org.
  • Trans* Families. The LGBTI Centre’s exhibition space offers you video excerpts from the documentary Famílies Trans* [Trans* Families], where the photographer and audio-visual craftsperson Mar C. Llop portrays 29 families socialising their child in the gender they identify with. The excerpts can be freely accessed until 30 April.
  • “Trans”, by Shon Faye. The British author visited the Barcelona LGBTI Centre to present her book Trans, published in Spanish by Blackie Books. You can watch the video featuring her conversation with Miquel Missé from this link.
  • We also highlight some of the works available at the Armand de Fluvià Documents Centre for loans and/or consultations. Check out the catalogue from this link.
  • As part of the celebrations of this date, the Sant Andreu District, has organised a day event for Friday, 1 April, in Plaça de la Trinitat Vella and the neighbourhood’s Community Centre. The day event will include activities such as a living library, story-telling, drag shows, Djs and a round table on intersectionalities in the trans struggle. A manifesto will be read out at 7 pm.
