Services
Information and Promotion
The Information and Promotion Service provides initial assistance for users at the Centre.
Taking into account the user’s profile and requests, the service provides the necessary information about how the Centre works, and the resources, services and activities available. The Information and Promotion Service also ensures the correct functioning of the Centre and the activities organised there.
Personal and Family Care Service
The Personal and Family Care Service provides initial assistance to identify the needs of individuals and families.
This determines whether the needs identified can be provided by the service itself or whether users should be referred to specialists or other facilities managed by the local authority or other associations.
Counselling
The Counselling Service advises and provides emotional assistance to individuals and families that, for different reasons, request psychological care over issues related to sexual orientation, identity or gender expression.
Barcelona LGBTI Centre sees the counselling service as a process of active listening and emotional support aimed at empowering users to successfully confront personal and relational issues linked to their particular circumstances.
The priorities that guide the actions provided by this service are the promotion of mental health and the prevention of psychological problems and violence.
Legal Advice
Provisions at the LGBTI Centre also include a team of workers who can give legal advice to users in situations of discrimination due to LGBTI-phobia or serophobia related to family law, immigration law, etc.
The team also provides advice with regard to employment issues (equality plans, discrimination in the workplace, etc.). Barcelona LGBTI Centre’s legal team also specialises in administrative processes that may be of interest to trans people.
Depending on the issues involved in each particular case, Barcelona LGBTI Centre also works in liaison with municipal and other services provided by different government levels and specialised organisations. The Centre also coordinates actions with the Office of the Prosecutor for Hate Crimes and Government of Catalonia’s whistleblowing offices.
In cases of LGBTI-phobia, the Centre works in cooperation with the Office for Non-Discrimination (OND) with the support of specialised organisations such as the Observatory Against Homophobia, which provides victim assistance services. The Centre also manages an Emergency Mechanism Against Violence to detect and act with regard to any cases that may arise.
Employment Advice
Barcelona LGTBI Centre offers attention to identify the needs on employment advice. Users are referred to other municipal services for further support. These services are:
Social and Health Information
In this area of activity, Barcelona LGBTI Centre provides advice about sexual and reproductive health for LGBTI people. The Centre also gives advice on health issues concerning trans and intersex people and people with HIV, Aids or any other sexually transmitted disease.
The aim of the Social and Health Information Service is to become a reference in the field of preventing and awareness about sexually transmitted diseases.
The Centre is equipped with a health space where the Gais Positius (Positive Gays) association conducts tests for sexually transmitted diseases.
