Baobab Urban Camps

Baobab is an educational leisure programme that takes place during the month of August with the aim of promoting, reinforcing and strengthening community-based educational leisure projects to respond to the educational needs identified in priority action neighbourhoods.

The main objective of the programme is to build educational spaces that promote the transmission of positive values for the comprehensive development of children, such as equality, social justice, cooperation, care for the common good, critical thinking, respect for others and recognition of diversity. It also aims to create spaces of trust and connection, where children and adolescents can establish positive relationships and receive mutual support. Furthermore, it seeks to create an educational environment that, through play and interaction with other children, promotes the emotional well-being of participants and awakens in them a sense of appreciation for educational leisure as a fundamental tool for building community life in their neighbourhood.

On the other hand, the programme facilitates family reconciliation for those who, for various reasons, cannot enjoy holidays during the summer months or have to work, offering an essential resource in these cases. It also helps to reduce food costs for families in vulnerable economic situations, ensuring adequate nutrition for their children, which reinforces the comprehensive support that the programme aims to provide in the community.

Impacts over time:

  • Improvement in quality leisure and equity in educational and leisure activities.
  • Facilitation of work-life balance.
  • Promotion of social and cultural participation.
